Metallica spent some of their early years in California's East Bay area, starting in 1983. Of the many famous musicians associated with North Bay’s Marin County, the band has never made an appearance on a Marin stage. On September 11, that will change. Metallica will play their first concert ever in Marin County for the benefit of Marin County History Museum’s (MCHM) newest exhibition, Marin Rocks.
Celebrating the county’s musical roots and influential music scene, MCHM has decided to launch the new exhibition in 2010 to increase the public’s awareness of the immense musical talent and heritage in the area. Due to the smashing success of Metallica through the years, it only seemed right that they would help to kick off the museum’s newest development and bring in more funding for the project.
According to Marin History Museum Executive Director, Merry Alberigi, “Their [Metallica’s] support of the Marin Rocks exhibition has been phenomenal since the beginning … I can’t imagine a better way to further celebrate the future of Marin Rocks than a concert with one of the world’s most acclaimed bands.” Metallica went from being an underground metal band to one of the most successful groups in history, selling more than 100 million albums worldwide and winning nine Grammys. Tickets will go on sale August 1st, with prices starting at $100. The venue location is the Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium, 10 Avenue of the Flags, San Rafael, Calif.
